Are you the proud owner of the original Audi A4 / S4 Valeo D1S Bi-Xenon headlights? Then you probably have already concluded that the light output is far below par. With a little luck you have already replaced the D1S xenon lamps or cleaned the projector lens, and found out it didn't really solve the problem. The problem is that the reflectors of the old D1S Valeo projectors are deceased. They are burned and black. This can be so bad that your car fails the yearly inspection, because there is less light than an average halogen headlight. Unfortunately the projectors can not be repaired. All they are good for is the scrap heap. Fortunately Retrofitlab has an affordable solution for you, with which you can see again in the dark!

Your benefits

  1. No need for new headlights: saves hundred of euro's or dollars!
  2. Current D1S bulbs and ballasts do not need to be replaced
  3. Light output even better than new by newer generation projectors
  4. Relatively easy to install

Installation
The new projectors can be replaced through the existing opening at the rear of the headlight housing. Installation summary: remove old projectors.Take a small knife and cut away a piece of plastic in order to make room for the new projector. Cut a corner of the new projector (see picture). Install the new projectors using the special bracket and screws. Connect the solenoid with the supplied H7 splitter. Place the D1S bulb and plug it in. Adjust the beam level. Done!

Reviews

Installed these projectors to Vw Touareg AFS lights. Works good with bracket inc in this kit! Need minor work to get them fit, but overall very good product!! Light output is really good, sharpness is totally great! Yeah! I can see road again! THX!

This kit has improved my light output significally. My standard valeo reflectors were burnt and I found a temporary solution, I taped the aluminium tape inside the reflectors. THe output was better but not as good as with this new kit.

Some mistakes that I made:

On the picture, you can see that you have to cut right corner on the projector. Well, I did cut the right corner on both of them, but I did not relize that on the picture is the right headlight and the projector.
In other words: right projector - right corner, left projector - left corner.
To make hole in headlight: the knife wont help you here. I used a small saw driven on compressed air. Powerfile will also do the job. I have to repeat, DO NOT waste your time tyring to make a hole with a knife!

The projector has to be slighty modified with grinder in order to fit it the bracket in the headlight.

Things you need before you start:

Grinder
Powerfile / a small saw (electric or for compressed air)
Screwdrivers
Vacuum cleaner - to clean the headlight after you make a hole in it
Patience

The new projectors made a big difference. I had some problems fitting the left side. I had to drill out the holes on the mounting plate to get the projector to be centered, but it is a massive improvement from the oem projectors.
I can highly recommend this product.
